FRANCESC NELLO DEAKIN
I'm a professional dancer and choreographer with years of experience working in German theatres as well as abroad.
Through my work as a choreographer, I want to bring narrative context back into dance. Not by recreating the great ballets of the 19th and 20th century but by trying to bring the world that surrounds us on stage. And in so doing, extend a hand to the audience.
Furthermore, I strongly believe that in our digital age, it is vital that we prioritise musicians over music files, painters over projections. In other words, when it comes to the stage, true human expression must reign supreme.
Francesc Nello Deakin is a choreographer, dancer and writer. He trained at institutions such as the Hamburg Ballet School and the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp.
As a professional, he has worked at IT Dansa Jove Companyia in Barcelona and at the Hessisches Staatsballett in Wiesbaden, performing work by choreographers such as Xie Xin, Jiří Kylián, Sharon Eyal, Ohad Naharin, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Edward Clug and many others.
As a freelancer, Francesc has worked on productions such as the Faust-winning "Voodoo Waltz", choreographed and directed by Imre and Marne van Opstal. He has also choreographed for the opera Hänsel und Gretel alongside Manon Andral at the Deutsches Nationaltheater und Staatskapelle Weimar and collaborated on several choreographic films with Matthias Vaucher including Cry for Rest, Andante and Shade of a Day among others.
